home away from home

Private, home like setting in Anderson’s oldest historical mansion. Owners do not occupy the Inn, so it’s like your “Home away from Home.” The feeling within the Inn is of peace and tranquility. Each room is decorated differently (something to please everyone) and each has its own bath facility.

Owners do not occupy the Inn, so your time is completely yours to keep to yourself or mingle with other guests in the community living room setting. The result is a quiet, peaceful, relaxing and oh….so…………Private. A “back into time” experience!

We would love to visit, but can usually do so only at designated times. If this is part of the experience you desire when staying at the Inn…….
Please let us know in advance.

Most Sincerely,

Myrna Ryter

History of Inn

Anderson’s oldest historic home was built in 1834 by the Ackers- Broyle families. The Inn was their home “in Town” and another 20 miles towards lake Hartwell was their “country home”

Located higher than the surrounding properties, the family brought the dirt in from the Savannah River. Magnificent, huge oak and unusual pines along with one of the largest crepe myrtle trees in the South, surround the Inn and Restaurant. The Spa and restaurant located next to the Inn was built in1906, as a wedding gift to their granddaughter.

1986, The Inn opened and then was converted to a Spa in 1999. In 2003 the Spa moved into the Restaurant building and the Inn recreated. Aiming for a “destination” stop for dining, relaxing and rejuvenation

Present Owner

Peter & Myrna Ryter met in Southern California in the early 70’s. Peter, originally from Switzerland , has been the chef in many fine restaurants in California, owning his own at one time in Redondo Beach. Vacation travel introduced them to Tahiti, resulting in a move to Moorea. After four years of managing resorts and introducing two young sons into the world, it was time to make a change. Myrna’s parents, retired in Anderson which was the main reason for their move , along with the designation of destiny!
Everything clicked into place for an award winning restaurant and new life style centered around Lake Hartwell. What a challenge…………in 1982, Anderson acquired a European-continental-gourmet style restaurant. “I hope you’re going to make it” was echoed in our ears for several years. (This was a hot dog, hamburger, steak, kind of city)

A wonderful surprise entered our life in 1992, another son. Our older two sons, with our persuasion, took their restaurant training and traveled first to Vail, Colorado and then to Maui, Hawaii.

Myrna, with a passion for health related topics and natural skin care regimes, finally branched out from the restaurant business and opened a Spa in 1999. With schooling and an Esthetician license, its defiantly a “hands
on” business for her. The Spa is open by appointment, which is mainly Tuesday thru Sat 10-5p.m (other times are available-we try to be flexible) A “one of a kind” boutique, occupies one of the large rooms at he Spa, which has some of her hand made items as well as other things for sale. There are no two items alike which makes it unique!

With all we juggle in our lives (as with everyone else in this hectic world) we do not have time to socialize with all our guests. We do apologize and hope that you understand. Also, we do want to Thank You very much for your support!

Most Sincerely,

Myrna Ryter
